A-Rated Windows, Just For You
This December we have seen an increased number of storms battering our homes. From storm Arwen to storm Barra, we have had our fair share of high winds, and driving rain. This means that many of you will have started to notice issues with your existing windows. So is it time to think about new, A-Rated windows for your home?
Cold Weather Concerns
Now that we have seen a couple of bad storms, what are the signs to look out for that your windows have been damaged? (or just ageing of course).
Cool Breeze – when A-Rated windows are closed, you should not be able to feel a cool breeze coming from any part of the window. Typical places for a breeze to break through is around your window seal. On a slightly windy day, you should be able to tell roughly where the breeze is coming from by holding your hand near to the seal. More effectively, move a candle slowly around the seal, where the flame flickers there will be a breeze.
If your cool breeze doesn’t appear to be coming from the seal, you might want to take a look around the outer edge of the frame, where it meets brick or plaster.
Crumbling Plaster – Where the severe weather has battered the exterior of your home, it may have damaged the exterior walls. Where this has happened, dampness can get into your walls. This means that the cement and plaster that holds your window in place may not be as structurally as sound as it ideally should be. After a heavy rain shower, you may see that there are signs of dampness on your interior walls immediately around your frames. If you have any concerns, call in a professional to take a look at the exterior of your walls.
Increased Noise – You will have become accustomed to a certain level of noise pollution from outside, whether you live on a busy street or a cul-de-sac, you will know the standard level of noise to expect in your home. After a heavy storm, and you notice that the noise has increased, this is a sign that your window has experienced some damage, which may result in it needing to be replaced.
