Cooling Your Conservatory This Spring
Now that spring is here, conservatories and orangeries will only get hotter and hotter – especially if we’re looking at a summer as hot as the past few years have been. As a result, it’s time to think about ways of cooling your glass installations.
In this article, we’re going to be going through some of the ways that you can cool your conservatory and orangery. With temperatures as high as they have been, it can feel as though it would be impossible. However with a few simple steps, you’ll have your conservatory feeling as cool as a cucumber in no time.
Open Windows and Doors At The Right Times
Our first recommendation is the simplest. During the day when it’s at its hottest, you should keep your conservatory and orangery’s doors and windows closed. This will ensure that cool air from your home doesn’t escape and warmed air from outside doesn’t creep into your home.
In contrast, having your windows and doors open at cooler parts of the day — when the air is cooler – allows that cooler air to enter your home, thus cooling your home. Typically, these cooler parts of the day include the early morning (before the sun has risen) and after the sun has set. Allowing the cooler air to enter your home at these specific times will ensure that your home is cool during the right times.
Invest in Some Blinds
Our next recommendation is that you consider investing in a set of blinds – preferably white or cream coloured blinds – for your conservatory and close them during the day. Darker colours tend to absorb more heat and light than lighter coloured ones, thus raising the temperature of the material. In contrast, lighter colours (in particular shades of white) reflect light – lowering the temperature on those surfaces.
You can take advantage of this phenomenon by investing in some white or cream coloured blinds and keeping them shut during the day. In combination with the above tip, this will keep your conservatory cool during the hottest part of the day.
Look at Restyling Your Decor
Again, this is a tip related to the one above. Just as you can use light-shaded blinds to cool your conservatory, you can also use your furniture to do the same thing. By keeping the pieces of furniture in your conservatory cool, you can help to keep your conservatory cool.
Use Ice and Fans
Our final recommendation to help cool your conservatory is a combination of ice and fans. All you have to do is to set up a tray of ice cubes in cold water in front of a spinning fan. As the ice cubes melt, the air surrounding them will cool. This cool air will subsequently be pushed by the fan, dispersing it throughout the room – thus cooling it.
